The 35 Mile Drive Association was formed in 2010 to celebrate the tourism and hospitality industry in Goochland County and to promote Goochland as a getaway-for-the-day destination to the Greater Richmond, Virginia area. Getaway-for-the-day to Goochland for a day well spent!
Explore the original “35 Mile Drive,” a beautiful drive along River Road West, a Virginia scenic byway- thirty-five miles of rolling terrain along the James River corridor through Goochland. Start at the Henrico county line at Tuckahoe Plantation and discover unique destinations and things to do along the drive. Whether by car, bicycle or motorcycle, enjoy a few hours exploring.
You will pass the boyhood home of Thomas Jefferson at Tuckahoe, stroll the gardens or tour the house; the Benedictine Abbey- home to the Shroud of Turin Center and a gift shop of goods made by the monks in residence; you’ll pass Thistledown Alpacas; Second Chances at James River Work Center- the first program of its kind in Virginia matching rescued racehorses and offenders; Tanglewood Ordinary, family-style dining and home to famous fried chicken; Tucker Park at Maidens Crossing- a new riverfront park in development at Rte 522; the Historical Society museum and library; Brightly Bed & Breakfast- one of two B&B’s in Goochland; Nadolski’s Butcher Shop- specialty meats, seafood and wine; the Courthouse Village; the White Hawk Music Café- live music, café food, coffee and smoothies, music lessons and the official home of the original 35-Mile Drive series; Orapax Hunting Preserve- 700 acres of upland game bird habitat; Rappalee Taxidermy- visit their showroom of animals from all over the world; Byrd Cellars- one stop along the 35 Mile Drive Wine Trail which also includes Windsong and Grayhaven Wineries; Rassawek- home to the Spring Jubilee Heritage & Wine Festival.
You can also explore the new “35 Mile Drive Wine Trail” which includes tastings and tours at Grayhaven Winery, Windsong Winery and Byrd Cellars. Maps available on the website.
